Patterdale Tree Removal: Behind-the-Scenes

Tree removal and pruning in Patterdale to remove multiple unsafe trees.

Sometimes keeping our roads and communities safe means taking action you might not even notice — unless you’re caught in a road closure! Recently in Patterdale, a tomography inspection revealed five roadside trees that were dangerously weakened and posed a risk to drivers, power lines, and nearby properties.

Removing these trees wasn’t just a case of sending in a chainsaw. It took 4 months of careful planning and coordination between multiple stakeholders to make sure everything happened safely and with minimal disruption.

Here’s what went into the operation:

🌳 Planning a Full Road Closure
Closing a road in the Lake District is no small task. We worked with bus companies, the Lake District National Park, the National Trust, and Westmorland & Furness Council to choose the safest time and make sure the public was informed.

Shutting Off the Power — Safely
Some of the trees stood close to live power lines so, to keep everyone safe, we partnered with Electricity North West to schedule a controlled power outage during the works.

🚧 Specialist Crane Assistance
Where trees overhung power lines, we brought in a crane to lift and remove them piece by piece. This was a delicate process requiring, skill, expertise and knowledge.

Thanks to this coordinated effort, the job was completed safely and efficiently, keeping Patterdale’s roads safe for residents and visitors alike.
